Outdoor classroom canopies
A tensile fabric canopy can provide a beautiful and inspiring outdoor classroom space, while being extremely practical and durable. Canopies from Aura will help you to meet the Ofsted requirement for outdoor learning with an attractive permanent solution.
The highly technical architectural fabric that we use will allow fantastic light transmission providing you with a teaching space that has plenty of light for reading, writing or creative activities. The harmful UV rays of the sun however will not penetrate the fabric, meaning that your pupils will be protected from the sun. Please refer to this page for our full fabric specifications.
Outdoor classrooms and play areas need to benefit your school during rain and wind not just on sunny days, so our fabric is completely waterproof. We have also made the decision to use steel (rather than aluminium) for all of our architectural structures. Steel is approximately three times stronger than aluminium (by size) and is key to our commitment to the durability of our structures. All of our canopies are designed to withstand a minimum of 120km/h (75mph) and minimum snow loads of 10cm according to BSI standards (please see individual canopy designs for full details).
Outdoor classrooms designed and installed to suit your needs
Whatever space you have available we can recommend the best style of canopy to meet your needs, whether the canopy is free standing, adjacent to the building or connected to it. You can choose whether to specify central columns, or legs at the canopy perimeter, depending on how you would like to use the space beneath. Central columns may be more difficult to work around in a formal outdoor classroom teaching situation but can allow pupils using the space as a covered play area freedom to move into an out of the space more easily.
Aura canopies are manufactured in the UK and are installed by our experienced team at the weekend or during school holidays to minimise disruption to your school days. Installation usually takes one or two days.
