Sustainability

Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987 Sustainability encompasses environmental, social and economic issues; referred to as the three pillars of sustainability.

The sustainability challenge is fundamental to the construction industry: how do we fulfil society’s aspirations for better buildings without compromising the future. At Aura we recognise the significance of this challenge and are committed to continuous improvements to reduce our environmental impact and will meet, and where possible exceed, all relevant regulatory requirements.

As an example, we have installation teams based in the North and the South of England so that we can reduce travelling distances and serve our UK wide customers as efficiently as possible. Everyone who works for Aura enjoys the flexibility to work from home saving fuel and giving them the opportunity to spend more time with their families rather than time spent commuting.

The majority of our tensile fabric structures, both modular and bespoke, are made in the UK reducing transportation of goods and supporting our local supplier partners.

Some facts about tensile fabric structures and the environment

You are probably interested in answering questions about the environmental impact of a tensile fabric structure so we have put together a list of facts about Aura structures that we hope you will find helpful.

There are, at the time of writing, no official ratings of the environmental impact of fabric structures compared with other materials but you can obtain information on sustainability issues in the construction sector at the BRE Group or the Construction Products Association.

  • All fabrics used in our structures can be recycled under the Texyloop® System. This unique initiative allows waste offcuts and end of life fabric to be recycled into the production of new fabrics thus reducing waste and reducing the environmental impact of production
  • The structures have a design life of 20+ years much longer than a wooden structure or most polycarbonates, saving you the need to replace it
  • Architectural fabrics are highly translucent so won’t require additional lighting for use during daylight saving on electricity
  • A fabric structure located in proximity to another building will not reduce the light available within the building so additional lighting will not be required
  • The architectural fabrics that we use reflect up to 100% of UV rays which can prevent heat gain within adjacent buildings thus reducing the need for energy expended on cooling
  • You can choose a structure from Aura with integral guttering which means that you can capture and use rainwater
